Q1. What is ICD-10?
A1. It is a
standardized set of codes for more detailed diagnoses. It will
replace ICD-9 codes on your claims.
Q2. When will ICD-10 come into
effect?
A2. ICD-10
codes will be required for any claims with a date of service from
10/1/2014 going forward. All claims with a date of service through
9/30/2014 will still use ICD-9 codes.
Q3. What
will we need to do to get ready for ICD-10?
A3. This
depends on how you currently send claims. Please see our ICD-10
Testing Instructions that can be accessed from your login page for
more information.
Q4. What is ECP doing to
prepare for ICD-10?
A4. Though it
is not required, ECP is voluntarily testing with payers and is also
accepting test claims from our clients that will be checked by ECP's
edit system to ensure that each submitted ICD-10 code is a valid
code.
Q5. Will I
be able to send ICD-9 and ICD-10 on the same claim?
A5. No. A claim
may only contain ICD-9 or ICD-10, not both.
Q6. Where do
I find the new ICD-10 codes?
A6. There are
many sources for this information, we suggest you start by going to
either www.cms.gov or www.aapc.com
Q7. Do all
payers need to be ready on 10/1/2014?
A7. Yes with
the exception of worker's compensation and casualty and property
payers.
Q8. Should I
contact my practice management software to be sure I am ready for
ICD-10?
A8. Yes. It is
imperative that you verify with them that you care currently capable
of sending ICD-10 codes.
Q9. When
should we send a test file for ICD-10?
A9. We
recommend you send a test file as soon as you are able to ensure you
are ready for ICD-10.
Q10. Can we
send ICD-10 codes before the 10/1/2014 deadline?
A10. No. When
sending non-test claims, the ICD-10 codes must be sent according to
the date of service of 10/1/2014.
