Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Reviews medical record documentation to identify all services provided by physicians.
  • Assigns appropriate CPT procedure codes to accurately report physician services.
  • Assigns appropriate ICD-9 diagnosis codes to accurately support the need for each physician service.
  • Identifies physician services provided, but not adequately documented in the medical record, by performing yearly reviews for each physician.
  • Advises Billing Manager and Physician representatives of deficiencies to support charge capture of the billing services.
  • Assists Billing personnel in coding questions.
  • Assists with physician billing and documentation training in daily interactions with physicians and other routine training sessions.
  • Compiles reports as needed to Billing Manager and Physicians on deficiency rates.
  • Identifies trends/problems in medical documentation and recommends solutions.
  • Provides routine updates to the compliance manuals.
  • Attends coding meetings requested by TCI Clients.
  • Other duties as requested by Billing Manager or Director of Operations.

Personnel Training

  • Assists Manager in determining training needs of employees in your department.
  • Communicates progress and deficiencies of current personnel to Manager.
  • Maintains accessibility to employees for questions and additional training.

Personnel Communication

  • Assists Manager in determining staff hours, schedules, breaks and lunches.
  • Assists Manager in monitoring overall production.
  • Maintain accessibility as a BACKUP contact for employees who are late, sick, etc. if the Manager is unavailable.
  • Assists Manager with input for yearly progress reviews

Coding

  • Reviews charts for proper coding
  • Contacts physicians for appending patient records
  • Updates computer system with appropriate diagnostic and procedure codes
  • Trains new providers in coding techniques
  • Assists or directs any special projects as required
  • Trains new or existing coders and evaluates their performance

Customer Service

  • Answers in a professional and friendly manner phone inquiries from patients, physicians, hospitals and carriers and completes necessary duties to resolve the account. Duties may include printing a bill, noting account, making a phone call, etc.
  • Interviews caller to assess the situation, resolving problems quickly and accurately.
  • Keeps accurate record of all phone inquiries
